About Our Meetings
It’s been all change since March 2020 and we’ve been mostly meeting on Zoom with one garden party and some groups of 6 when regulations allowed. Hopefully our usual format described below can resume from July 2021.
After the business part of the meeting has finished, we turn our attention to our guest speaker for a 45-minute talk on what is usually either a thought-provoking or entertaining topic, and quite often a combination of the two! Our members take turns to give a short vote of thanks to our speaker and then we enjoy another drink and refreshments together put on by a different pair of our members each month.
At around 9.00 pm we all chip in to tidy the hall, opening the curtains, stacking the chairs, washing cups and folding away the tables. Many hands make light work and so we are usually finished and heading out of the hall by around 9.15 pm.
In between our monthly meetings, those of our members who don’t work full time sometimes get together for various activities such as keeping the garden in the Village Hall car park looking good, or sewing bags or knitting or crocheting goodies for various charities that we support, or to plan one of our fund-raising.
We also have a summer outing in August which our members choose some months in advance. This usually entails a meal out together, sometimes preceded by a visit of some sort. Other get-togethers are held on an ad-hoc basis depending on what future events we have planned. For example, we have a craft group that gets together several times between monthly meetings when we have decided to submit a group entry for judging at the Oswestry Show.
We have a Committee which currently has 7 members (see list of Committee Members at the end). The Committee meets 3 to 4 times per year to decide on the direction that our WI will be taking, causes that we would like to put forward to the group to support, events or projects we think might be of interest to our members, etc. If you would like to become a member of the Committee, please let me or Victoria or Gill know.
The boring stuff:
1. Annual subscription fees: these are due on joining (pro-rated depending on the time of year that you join) currently £45 with a reduction this year for Trefonen WI members.
2. Data Privacy: so that we can contact you by email, phone or post and so that we can share your contact details with our other members, we ask you to read our GDPR Privacy/Fair Processing Notice and to sign the acknowledgment and the specific consent at the end of the notice.
3. Consent for Use of Image: we have set up a Facebook page for the Trefonen WI on which we post and share pictures of some of our activities in a bid to attract new members. We may in the future also set up a website or use other forms of social media to advertise our group. To this end, we ask that you sign our consent form to allow us to use photos in which you appear on our Facebook page (or Internet or other social media sites) to keep it(them) current and interesting.
Look forward to seeing you soon!
